Judges And Freemasons

Sir, - The thesis presented by Michael W. Walker of Freemasons' Hall (August 12th) is clearly flawed. Jew, Gypsy and Freemason are not analogous terms. Jews and Gypsies are respectively born into the Jewish and Romany races. Freemasons are persons who wittingly (we hope) decide to become members of an elitist and secret fraternity, for what one understands to be purposes of mutual assistance and support.

It does not take much commonsense or intelligence, not to mention a sense of justice and fair play, to figure out why members of a judiciary should not belong to such an organisation. - Yours, etc., L. G. Kilgallen,
