Sir - The release of six IRA prisoners by our Government was not an act of gross insensitivity. The release of political prisoners of qualifying organisations is an integral part of the Good Friday talks agreement and the British government must follow the example of our Government.
It is crucially important that both governments implement the terms of the Good Friday agreement and are seen to be doing so. Otherwise, I fear we will see republicans becoming disillusioned and drifting to the various fringe factions that now exist. - Yours, etc., Stephen Kearon,
Friars Hill, Wicklow.
