Madam, - Kevin Myers reminded us (An Irishman's Diary, September 3rd) that next year will be the 800th anniversary of the sack of Constantinople by the Venetians, in the course of which they removed the famed bronze four horses to St Mark's Square in Venice.
It would be fitting if Italy were to use the occasion to restore this monument to Greece.
Next year is also the year in which the Presidency of the EU falls to Ireland. It would be doubly fitting if an insignificant small nation had something to do with this restoration. - Yours, etc.,
DONAL O'DRISCOLL, Blackrock, Co Dublin.
