Sir, - Having read Mr Kevin Myers's piece on Gay Byrne's role in the history of Ireland in the second half of the 20th century, I can only conclude that either (a) Mr Myers has been hiding an outrageous sense of humour from your readers for many years; or (b) the broadcasting bug has really bitten (perhaps from his stint at the microphone on The Last Word) and he is hoping that Mr Byrne will use his not inconsiderable influence with RTE to ensure that come January 1st, 1999, the said Mr Byrne's slot on Radio 1 will be filled by "Our Own, Our Very Own - Mr Kevin Myers". - Yours, etc., Eileen Malone,
