Madam, - With 2000 redundancies announced at Dairygold to compound the mounting job-losses elsewhere, isn't it time the media and some people in this country began to take a reality check. Obsessive articles and debates about the forthcoming lavish weddings of two mediocre pop stars have already begun, and some columnists seem on the verge of therapy due to Georgina Ahern's decision to get married abroad. While some people in this country can afford million euro weddings and celebrity-celebrity lawyers, the vast majority cannot.
The current economic climate has led to a growing nervousness among Irish people about job-security and our future ability to afford the basics - education, housing, healthcare and happy children. - Yours etc.,
SEAMUS LYNCH, Portrane, Co Dublin.
