Madam, - Your Editorial of July 5th argues that the Government must act decisively to engender an environment for job creation. However, perhaps there are alternatives to the traditional approach to this aim.
Rather than relying on multinationals creating and developing facilities here at a considerable cost per job to the State, should we not be encouraging and investing in the whole area of self-employment? The creation of sustainable employment and enterprise through self-employment is a worthwhile and proven economic model throughout this world. - Yours, etc.,
JOHN CRANFIELD, Glasthule, Co Dublin.
