Madam, - When Minister for Transport Mr Seamus Brennan introduced the long overdue penalty point system for exceeding legal speed limits in October 2002 he emphasised, that by repeatedly flouting the law, offending drivers would be subject to severe penalties and eventually have their driving licences revoked. Fair play to the Minister.
However, Mr Brennan failed to inform those of us who obey the speed limits that we would be subject to severe abuse and possibly have our lives revoked by the bully-boy tactics and road rage from the numerous testosterone- fuelled individuals who obviously, in utter disregard for the rules of the road or the rights of others, continue to drive at high rates of speed. - Yours, etc.,
EDWARD D. RAFFERTY, Castlebridge, Co Wexford.
