Madam, - Readers may like to guess how many violent deaths they will watch as they sit back to digest their Christmas dinners. Violent deaths make such good entertainment that RTÉ has saved up Gladiator followed by a Die Hard film as our special Christmas treats. The State television service obviously considers violence to be essential Christmas viewing.
Perhaps RTÉ might consider trying just one day next year when no violent death is shown for entertainment purposes on television. September 21st, which is UN World Peace Day, would be appropriate. - Yours etc.,
TERRY GILLESPIE, The Glebe, Stradbally, Co Laois.
