Sir, – Congratulations to those people of Mayo County Council and to anyone else who had a hand in the creation of the Great Western Greenway. As many will know, this wonderful 43km off-road cycling and walking route runs through the lovely countryside of Mayo from Westport to Achill Island, along the route of the railway which closed in 1937.
I was one of a group of seven who greatly enjoyed cycling this route recently, but what a pity it was that at Heuston Station in Dublin the train to Westport could carry no more than three bikes. Our group solved that problem by taking our seven bikes to Westport in four cars! Something is wrong somewhere. – Yours, etc,
