Sir, - In reply to Dr L O'Donnell's letter (February 17th), I'm sure Dr O'Donnell will be surprised to read that I actually agree with him. Institute of technology designation will, of course, attract industry to a region.
It is a fact that at present Dublin, Cork, Shannon/Limerick and Galway attract the high tech industries. It is no coincidence that these areas are served by our existing universities. Incidentally Motorola and Apple have recently announced plans to expand in the Cork region.
We in the South East Region look forward to our brightest and best (who have been educationally disadvantaged in the past) getting the same opportunity as those in our university cities. Accepting the fact that there is not enough, finance for all, please allow the South East Region to get off the starting block. - Yours, etc.,
