Madam, – We can divert billions to save misbehaving banks and developers, equip Nama with millions to pay its growing armoury of property specialists, auditors and solicitors, but seemingly we cannot divert thousands (chump change!) to ensure that Dublin city residents – poor residents in particular, have access to municipal swimming pools in the area for the year (Laura Slattery, Business Agenda, April 16th).

Swimming pools provide one of the few sources of healthy sporting recreation that is immune from the rain clouds. Let’s hope the financial tsars will raise their heads out of the banking quagmire from time to time and remember to serve the citizens’ needs and entitlements. – Yours, etc,
