Sir, - The protests by animal rights members outside the Il Florilegio circus in Booterstown is in marked contrast to the lack of interest in the plight of human beings living and sleeping in our streets this winter.
The circus animals have been checked and passed as healthy by Department of Agriculture vets. They are also, we presume, properly housed and fed.
But what of our street people or the young families who are condemned to live in B & Bs at night and wander the streets by day? Who checks them out or, apart from the voluntary organisations, who even cares?
In our "post-Christian" society, it appears that the rights of circus animals rate higher than the rights of human beings. - Yours, etc., Kathleen Walsh,
Nutley Avenue, Donnybrook, Dublin 4.
