Madam, - I read the Rev Gerard McGreevy's letter of September 25th with interest.
For some time I have wanted to point out also what poverty was like in those days. Prosperity had certainly not arrived in Ireland, north or south.
What stopped me was the fact I am a Northern Protestant and it was hardly my business.
Nevertheless, the Catholic Church and the Irish State took on a heavy burden and this also needs to be acknowledged, as well as the unfortunate shortcomings. - Yours, etc.,
