Sir, - Stephen O'Dowd (July 19th) asks the pertinent question: "What is so wrong with successful people giving money to charity?"
My own tuppence-worth would be that there is zilch, in an absolute sense, wrong with the activity. But I would incline to add the qualifier that it is a poor substitute for taking the trouble to install structures that assure justice, thus obviating the need for such ostentatious palliation as the golf gig referred to. -Yours, etc.,
