Madam, - We read with interest Kevin Myers's Irishman's Diary of October 31st. In particular we were pleased to note that Mr Myers considered the Boyne Valley Bridge "a true engineering masterpiece", but said he did not know who designed it.
Your readers may be interested to learn that this bridge was designed by one of the member companies of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland, Roughan & O'Donovan (who incidentally also designed the Taney Bridge).
It is, however, important to pay tribute to the NRA for their continued support and encouragement to designers in relation to innovative bridge design. As a consequence we do have in Ireland some of the finest examples of engineering design in Europe. - Yours, etc.,
ANNE POTTER,
Executive Director,

Engineers of Ireland,
