Madam, - The regular damaging and theft of commuters' bicycles parked at Heuston station is another example of CIÉ stupidity. Like old communists never understanding the market economy no matter how hard they pretend to try, one despairs that CIÉ will ever be capable of implementing an integrated transport policy in the Dublin area.
Bicycles at Heuston station are essential for Dublin transport because of Heuston's bad location - nearly two miles from most offices. Before the current redevelopment, around 200 bicycles could be parked overnight in relative safety inside the station. Now they must be left nearly 400 yards away in an open and insecure area. Evidently, CIÉ hasn't much regard for the convenience or property of rail commuters who were trying to cope with Heuston station's deficiencies. - Yours, etc.,
