Madam, - Colm O'Donnell (September 12th) bemoans the replacement of Amhrán na bhFiann with Ireland's Call for the forthcoming Rugby World Cup. Could I remind him that Amhrán na bhFiann is the anthem of the 26-county Republic and is unrepresentative of a squad that includes several players from Northern Ireland?
The fact that the woeful Ireland's Call is the best they could do is surely not relevant.
Perhaps both the Irish and British anthems should be played before each of Ireland's games. I'm sure that would go down well with rugby followers of a nationalist bent. - Yours, etc.,
CAHIR HEALY, Rockboro Avenue, Old Blackrock Road, Cork.
