Madam, - I recognise that it takes certain skills and insights to report on the a.g.m.s of Irish Press plc but I would like to make a couple of short comments on the report in your edition of October 1st.
Your reporter Barry O'Halloran wrote at some length about the polls. I believe it would have been of considerable help to your readers if they had been informed that proxies in favour of the board would have won any of the polls comfortably even if Dr Eamon de Valera did not vote his shares, which of course he was entirely entitled to vote. This position was made clear by me at the meeting.
And then there was the very odd use of the word "skewed" in relation to the polls. I would prefer to think that this was a failure in the English language on Mr O'Halloran's behalf and not deliberate.
Otherwise one might be tempted to think that the report was loaded. Or skewed. - Yours, etc.,
VINCENT JENNINGS,
Chairman,
