Gardaí have issued a description of a man they want to interview in connection with a sexual assault on a young mother at her home in Dundrum in south Dublin last week.
Fearing he may strike again, detectives have launched a major investigation, based in Dundrum Garda station.
The man came to the women's home last Monday, pretending to be a cable television technician. He forced his way into the home and bound the woman with plastic ties before sexually assaulting her.
He also threatened the woman with a knife.
The man is described as being about 40 years of age, 5 feet 8 to 9 inches, and average/slim build. He has a full head of dark wavy hair, going grey (salt and pepper colouring), and is unkempt looking.
Gardaí say he has a slight dark/grey moustache with possibly two days' growth of beard.
He was wearing a light-coloured, possibly beige, short zip-style jacket, plain blue shirt, lilac tie, navy slacks and dark shoes.
He was also wearing "unusual" dark blue framed glasses, which gardaí say were "old-fashioned, extremely large and ill-fitting". It is believed these may have been worn as a disguise.
The man spoke with a "mild Dublin accent".
