The World Economic Forum (WEF) summit due to take place in Dublin in October has been postponed.

The Government expressed its disappointment by the decision to reschedule the Competitiveness Summit, which it now intends to run in conjunction with its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

Explaining the decision, the WEF said that as its Global Competitiveness Report 2003-2004 will be published only in November, the discussion on the report can better be held later in the year to take the latest findings into account.

Responding to the WEF decision, the Tánaiste, Ms Harney, said the Government had been very willing to host the Summit and was disappointed it would not now go ahead.

In the light of the WEF decision not to proceed, I hope that the WEF will continue with a special focus on Competitiveness during the Davos Summit in January next year" she said.
