Gardai in Galway are investigating an incident in which a group of youths repeatedly rammed a woman's car in a motiveless attack early on Wednesday.
The driver was traumatised when the vehicle carrying six men forced her car off the city's Tuam Road before spinning around to hit it head-on a number of times at about 1.15 a.m.
Ms Sheila O'Brien was returning home after visiting her 84-year-old mother in Co Mayo when the group of youths targeted her car on the outskirts of the city for no apparent reason. Their Opel Kadett overtook her car before spinning around and hitting it head-on a number of times.
The driver of a security van pulled up as the six men were leaving and telephoned gardai, who were on the scene within minutes. Ms O`Brien did not sustain serious injuries, although it is estimated that more than £2,000 worth of damage was caused to her car.
