An anti-Iraq war protester has been arrested after climbing the front gates of Buckingham Palace in London and remaining there for two hours.
The lone female demonstrator climbed to the top of the metal gate and unfurled a US flag with a message written on it.
Wearing a fluorescent yellow jacket, which had "Campaign for Accountability of American Bases" written on the back, she ignored police attempts to persuade her to come down.
Passers-by and the media were moved at least a 100 metres away from the protest, in anticipation of the eve of George Bush's state visit to the UK.
The protester has been named as grandmother Mrs Lindis Percy, who has been involved in direct action for decades, an acquaintance said at the scene.
After climbing down, Mrs Percy was put into the back of a police van and driven away. An acquaintance says she is from Hull.
