A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Cork woman after she failed to appear for the second day of her trial for allegedly sexually assaulting her seven-year-old son.

Judge Patrick McCartan, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, issued the warrant after giving the woman the morning to show up, believing there could have been some travel complications as she was commuting from a Cork suburb.

Mr John O'Kelly SC, defending, earlier indicated to Judge McCartan that the Cork train timetable had recently been changed and this might have led to some confusion.

The 42-year-old accused had pleaded not guilty to three charges of sexually assaulting her son on dates from April to September 1994. The boy, now 13, was expected to give his evidence via the courts video-link system.

Judge McCartan thanked the jury for its involvement in the case and ordered that the woman be brought before him on her arrest so that a new date for trial could be set.
