Mr Michael Clifford, the alleged victim of clerical sex abuse - who three weeks ago testified to the Residential Institutions Redress Board from his death bed - has died.
Mr Clifford's case attracted media attention because the Board initially insisted he testify in Ireland, despite the pancreatic cancer from which he was suffering.
The 48-year-old was being treated in Coventry but had attempted to travel against medical advice. The Board relented at the last minute after publicity generated by his brother, Barry, who described the Board's behaviour as callous.
Mr Clifford claimed he had been physicall and sexually abused at St Joseph's industrial school in Galway between 1964 and 1971. He also alleged the school had incorrectly referred him to a mental institution where he received three months of electro-shock treatment.
News of the death emerged in the Evening Heraldtoday. Mr Clifford died on Saturday at his Coventry home and will be cremated on Monday.
His brother, Barry, who was with Michael at St Josephs has also lodged an appeal for compensation.
