A US soldier was killed and two were wounded when an improvised bomb was detonated near their convoy in the town of Taji north of Baghdad.

The incident happened last night, the US Central Command said.

The soldier was the 59th killed in attacks in Iraq since the start of May.Since yesterday morning, three US soldiers have been killed in Iraq in three separate bomb attacks.

One US soldier was killed and one wounded in a bomb attack on their convoy southeast of ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit yesterday evening.

A US Army spokesman said a four-vehicle convoy was targeted near the town of Dawr, north of Baghdad.Two 4th Infantry Division soldiers were taken to hospital and one later died of his wounds.

Earlier yesterday, the US military said one soldier was killed and two wounded in a bomb attack in the restive Sunni Muslim town of Ramadi, 60 miles west of Baghdad.
