Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson said today that he would be returning to the transfer market to strengthen his squad before the start of next season.
But, frustrated after his major target Ronaldinho snubbed the English champions in favour of a move to Barcelona, the Scot will not be rushing out to spend money on new players.
"We need to draw breath," Ferguson told reporters after United had beaten Celtic 4-0 in the opening game of their United States tour.
"There are probably two or three players we will be interested in over the next few weeks, but we are not going to rush out after what has happened.
"The problem for our club is that as soon as someone wants to sell a player, they attach our name to it.
"So we're not doing business at the moment. We're analysing the situation but we want a break."
British media have now linked United with a bid for Newcastle United's Kieron Dyer, prompting Newcastle to state publicly Dyer is not for sale. "The media will keep speculating ... but they'll be wrong," said Ferguson.
United's U.S. tour ends on August 3, with the Champions League transfer deadline set for August 31.
Ferguson has had some success in the transfer market in the close-season and signed Cameroon midfielder Eric Djemba Djemba, American goalkeeper Tim Howard and French winger David Bellion. Bellion scored a debut goal for United in Seattle on Tuesday.
