Manchester United have tabled a stg£6m offer for Ajax's fullback Hatem Trabelsi, it is reported.
According to the BBC, Sir Alex Ferguson intends to capture the 26-year-old Tunisian international, with personal terms currently being hammered out between the two clubs.
At the weekend the United manager admitted that strengthening his defence was his main priority, ahead of the coming season. Injuries to Wes Brown and Gary Neville have hastened the club's moves to capture the player.
To date this summer United have won the signatures of Tim Howard, Eric Djemba-Djemba, David Bellion , and Kleberson, the latter being subject to a work permit.
A roving fullback, Trebelsi has enjoyed two successful seasons with Ajax since moving from Tunisian side Sportif Sfaxien in 2001.
His impressive form during last season's Champions League led to him being linked with a move to Arsenal.
