A British court has ruled that American Internet twins, at the centre of a transatlantic tug-of-war about who rightfully owns them, should remain in the care of local authorities for now.

Alan and Judith Kilshaw, the British couple who took the twins from the United States after adopting them over the Internet, were seeking to regain custody of the children who were taken from them by police and social workers in a dramatic late-night swoop last week.
Judge Andrew Kirkwood announced the ruling at the High Court in Birmingham.
"It's become perfectly clear to me that in order to get the right solution, some impartial, responsible research needs to be done," he said, adding that the Kilshaws could no longer discuss the case with the media. Justice Kirkwood said it could be a matter of weeks before a final decision was made.
The case has created a storm of controversy in Britain. A Californian couple also says they adopted the twins over the Internet, and the six-month-old girl's natural mother has said that she wants her babies back in the United States.
