Maseru - Two people were shot dead and scores injured yesterday when Lesotho police opened fire on hundreds of protesters who have gathered for the past two weeks outside the king's residence to oppose recent election results, a witness said.
The shooting erupted after protesters hurled abuse at police who were beating one of their number, a witness in the southern African mountain kingdom said. Lesotho has been rocked by two weeks of protests against the ruling Lesotho Congress for Democracy's landslide victory in May general elections.
