A teenager has died and four people were injured in a single vehicle car crash in Co Roscommon in the early hours of today.

The crash occurred on the R361 Frenchpark to Boyle road at about 1.20am.

The car left the road and crashed into a ditch.

A 17-year-old male passenger was fatally injured in the crash. The driver of the car and three other passengers suffered injuries, which were not said to be life threatening.

Traffic diversions are in place on the road which has been partly closed to allow gardaí carry out a technical examination of the scene.

Separately, a man died and two others are being treated in hospital following a single vehicle crash in Co Westmeath.

The crash occurred on the Mullingar to Killucan road at about noon yesterday. Three men were taken to the Midland Regional Hospitals in Mullingar and Tullamore, with two said to be in a critical condition.

One man in his late 20s was later pronounced dead at the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

A third incident today is being investigated by gardaí in Drogheda.

The crash occurred on the northbound section of the M1 near Drogheda at about 3pm.

Gardaí said there were a number of minor injuries, and those involved were being treated in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.
