Two men have died and two women are in hospital following a road traffic collision in Co Cork this morning.
The crash occurred at approximately 2.45am on the N25 at Caherulton, Castlemartyr, when two cars travelling in opposite directions collided.
It is understood the occupants of the car in which two men died, were two couples heading off on holidays.
The bodies of the men, both who were in their 20s, have been removed to Cork University hospital.
The women were taken to Cork University hospital where they are being treated for their injuries. Their conditions are described as stable.
The male driver and sole occupant of the second car left the scene of the crash, but was arrested later at Ballinacurra, Midleton.
He is currently being detained at Midleton Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The N25 at Caherulton is closed at present to facilitate an examination by forensic collision investigators.
