TWO TEENAGE boys were granted bail last night after they were charged in connection with an assault in Co Tipperary in which a 22-year-old man was critically injured.
The man, who is being treated at South Tipperary General Hospital, was attacked at Mitchel Street, Thurles in the early hours of Sunday morning. His condition has been described as “critical but stable”.
At a special sitting of Limerick District Court last night, Det Garda James Kingston of Thurles Garda station gave evidence of formally charging Philip Grace (19), of Thomond Road, Thurles, with assault causing harm yesterday afternoon. During the same court sitting Det Garda Paul English, also of Thurles Garda station, gave evidence of charging a 15-year-old boy in connection with the same incident, in the presence of his sister.
The youth, who cannot be named, is also charged with assault causing harm. Judge Tom O’Donnell was told neither of the defendants replied to the charge and Supt Tony Cogan said there was no objection to bail.
Each of the defendants was granted free legal aid and Judge O’Donnell granted them bail with a number of conditions. A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
