Duncan Stewart, the television presenter and architect, is recovering in St Vincent's Hospital, Dublin, after being flown home from Belarus on Friday following a fall earlier last week, writes Alison Healy.
Mr Stewart sustained serious injuries to his upper body last Monday when he fell as he was filming footage of a nuclear reactor for a documentary.
The architect had travelled to Belarus to oversee the building of a children's day centre by the Chernobyl Children's Project (CCP) and to film a documentary on nuclear energy.
The CPP director, Ms Adi Roche, was with Mr Stewart when the accident happened in the south-east of Belarus.
His back, lungs and ribs were injured in the fall and he later lost consciousness. He was treated in a local hospital in the contaminated zone before being moved to another hospital. Mr Stewart was then flown home for treatment in Dublin on Friday night.
A spokesman for St Vincent's Hospital said he could not comment on Mr Stewart's condition.
Weekend reports claimed the architect had broken eight ribs and had sustained serious injuries to his lungs.
