The victorious 2002 Ryder Cup captain is hoping to win a card to compete on the highly-lucrative Champions Tour in the United States.

He told the Daily Mail: "That's it. It's time to take up new challenges and to embark on another stage of my career."

Torrance has played almost 300 European Tour events in a career spanning more than 30 years but has already targeted his first tournament appearance as a senior.

"My next tournament will be as a senior in my native Scotland at the end of August," Torrance added.

That tournament - at the Roxburghe in the Borders - precedes the European Senior Masters at Woburn, after which Torrance will look Stateside.

"I am looking for some sponsors' invitations in the US to see if I can win my card there," he said.

"However, I will not turn my back on Europe. I never have and I never will."
