A senior Taliban commander has been captured in central Afghanistan.

A senior Taliban commander has been captured in central Afghanistan.

Mullah Janan, believed to have been the Taliban's coordinator with al-Qaida, was captured near Deh Rawod in the central province of Uruzgan.

Janan was seen leaving the area by coalition special operations forces and was captured at an Afghan militia force checkpoint.

Authorities have said that Janan has close ties with Osama bin Laden and might have knowledge of his whereabouts.

He is also believed to be have been responsible for a rocket attack in July on an American military outpost in Deh Rawod.
