Timbera recorded a memorable victory in the Powers Gold Label Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse today for trainer Dessie Hughes and jockey Jim Culloty.
Culloty always had Timbera up with the pace as Torduff Boy cut out the running, with Timmy Murphy holding up the 2001 winner Davids Lad in last place.
As the field turned for home for the final time Culloty sent his mount to the front, only to be headed two out by Knock Knock and the Tony McCoy-ridden Winning Dream.
But Timbera would not be denied and rallying strongly, landed the prize at 11-1.
Winning Dream, a 9-1 chance, kept on for third with Davids Lad (10-1) a gallant fourth under his welter burden of 12st.
Culloty, who was having his first ride in the race, was adding to his victory in last year's Martell Grand National on Bindaree.
Timbera was making amends after falling at the penultimate fence when in second place in the race a year ago.
A decision on his participation today had been left to this morning because of the prevailing fast conditions.
Mick Fitzgerald, having his first ride in the race, was out of luck when his mount Ross Moff fell early on.
