Palestinian police have detained three suspected militants in connection with yesterday's bomb attack on a US diplomatic convoy that killed three US security guards in the Gaza Strip.
Palestinian security sources said the three, taken into custody yesterday soonafter the bombing, were members of the Popular ResistanceCommittees, an umbrella group of Palestinian militants that hascarried out roadside bombings and other attacks in Gaza.
The Palestinian Resistance Committees is made up mainly of former members of the Islamic militant group Hamas andex-members of President Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement.
The group has carried out a number of attacks during thethree-year-old Palestinian uprising for statehood but it again denied any involvement in Wednesday's bombing.
"We have made clear to the Palestinian Authority that we hadnothing to do with the bombing. We were stunned by theunjustified arrests," a local leader of the Popular Resistance Committees said.
