There were angry scenes outside Derry Magistrates' Court courthouse today when three men, two of them brothers, appeared in connection with the murders of two men earlier this week.

Mr Darren McCallion, (20), unemployed from Fergleen Park, Derry and his brother Mr David McCallion (230 from Glenbawn Avenue, Poleglass, in Belfast, were jointly charged with the murders of Paul Cross and of Bernard Parke between June 8th and June 11th.

A third man, Mr Dermott Kelly from Bridge Street, Derry, was charged with the murder of Mr Cross between the same dates.

About 30 people shouted abuse at the defendants as they arrived for the hearing. Several people, some of them relatives of the victims, thumped the police van as it was driven from Bishop Street into the court's security area.

Prior to the arrival of the defendants, police took up positions both inside the courtroom and outside the court building in Bishop Street.

The court heard that all three defendants were charged with the offences at Strand Road police station yesterday night night. All three denied the charges.

All three defendants were remanded in custody until July 10th.

Another man who was questioned by the police following the murders has been released unconditionally without charge. Another men and two women have been released pending reports to the DPP.
