Gardaí in New Ross, Co Wexford, are continuing their investigation into an apparent assault on a Swedish man in the town at the weekend.
The victim (31), who has not been named by gardaí, is in critical condition at Wexford general hospital after he was found unconscious outside a pub in the town at around 1 a.m. yesterday.
He was discovered after gardai responded to reports of a fight at a pub in the Mary Street area. The man had travelled to New Ross to work at the JFK Dunbrody Festival at the weekend. He has lived in Ireland for some time.
Elsewhere, the Garda has not received an official complaint about an alleged assault on a Spanish girl in Dublin last night.
Media reports said the 17-year-old was hit over the head with a bottle, pushed to the ground and kicked repeatedly in an unprovoked attack by two girls near a fast-food restaurant.
However, a Garda spokeswoman said no complaint had been made to gardaí about the incident.
