Flights to France are likely to be severely disrupted tomorrow as a result of industrial action by air traffic controllers in French airports.
The Europe-wide strike will affect Bulgaria, la Croatia, Italy, Hungry, Greece, Portugal and Spain, according to the Air Traffic Controllers European Unions coordination (ATCEUC).
However, a spokeswoman for the Irish Aviation Authority said that disruption to countries other than France is likely to be slight, if any.
Ms Lillian Cassin said that in France 75 per cent of traffic will be suspended between the hours of 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. with all outgoing and incoming flights effected.
A list of flights authorised to land in France over the course of the day is due to be released by the French Ministry of Transport later today.
As a result all flights from Ireland to France tomorrow are expected to be severely affected.
Flights to Portugal are also likely to be effected between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., while flights to and from Italy between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. will also be affected.
Fortunately for the large number of holiday-makers heading for Spain, none of the flights will be effected.
The ATCEUC has taken the action in protest over the European Commission’s to regulate the skies over Europe, creating a "single sky".
However, air traffic controllers say that this will result in the skies being sold off to the highest bidders in the aviation industry, sacrificing safety for commercial interests.
Meanwhile, has announced it has been forced to cancel a total of 28 flights originating in, or terminating in, France.
Return flights on the Dublin-Paris, Shannon-Paris, Brussels-Carcassonne, Glasgow-Paris, Frankfurt-Montpellier, Frankfurt-Perpignan, Stansted-Carcassonne, and Stansted-Nice routes have all been cancelled as a result of the industrial action.
