Madrid - Spanish police yesterday exploded a car belonging to the armed Basque separatist group ETA on suspicion it contained explosives, officials said.
The car was parked near a police station in Barcelona a regional government spokesman said.
No one was hurt when specialists blew up the vehicle in a controlled explosion, he said, adding that it was still unclear whether it had actually contained explosives. ETA has been blamed for around 800 deaths since 1968 when it started its violent campaign for an independent homeland in Basque-speaking areas of northern Spain and south-western France.
