The annual Lord Mayor's awards were presented at a ceremony at the Mansion House in Dublin this week. The six recipients came from the spheres of sport, journalism, environment and voluntary organisations.
Snooker champion and international sportsman Ken Doherty was chosen for his "sportmanship and dedication to high standards".
The Irish Times journalist Frank McDonald received an award. He was recognised for "elevating his profession to new heights and [he] has made a real and lasting contribution to a better Dublin".
Ms Jean Spain, president of the National Association of Mental Handicap of Ireland was chosen for her "tireless work in enhancing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities".
Founder of the Sunflower Recycling Project Ms Bernadette Walsh received an award for the "real and practical environmental improvements she has made to the lives of many Dubliners".
The Irish Foundation for Torture Survivors was chosen for its dedication in assisting survivors of torture and Scouting Ireland was chosen for bringing together the traditions of Scouting Ireland SAI and Scouting Ireland CSI.
