Sigma Wireless Technologies is to create 70 jobs in Dublin, the company said today.
The jobs are being created immediately at the firm's Finglas operation, after an agreement with mobile company O2.
The deal follows a €6 million R&D initiative by Sigma to produce antenna technology for mobile telephones. Sigma employs 400 people in Ireland.
Meanwhile, Braun Ireland has issued protective notice to a large percentage of its 550-strong workforce.
The company, which is based in Carlow town, has not specified how many employees have been effected by the notice, which becomes effective today.
SIPTU is seeking meetings with Braun management.
The Labour Party's deputy for Kildare South, Mr Jack Wall called on Tánaiste to act immediately following the news. Mr Wall said that "for once the Tanaiste has been given sufficient time to intervene on behalf of these workers."
"She must initiate a targeted job creation programme for the region to counter the impact of the losses. The hundreds facing the dole queues in Carlow and elsewhere deserve better from the Government," he added.
