A case involving a 60-year-old Co Galway school teacher, who is charged with the alleged sexual assault of five young children, was adjourned at Galway Circuit Criminal Court yesterday as his defence team considered moving the case to Dublin in the interests of a fair trial.
The man, who may not be identified to protect the identity of the alleged victims, faces 53 charges of sexual assault, on various dates between 1998 and 2000.
Mr Francis Comerford, for the defence, said he was seeking disclosure of certain documents and there was also the issue of whether or not the case should be transferred to Dublin. Mr Conor Fahy, prosecuting on behalf of the State, consented to the matter being adjourned to the criminal sittings of Galway Circuit Court, beginnin on November 18th. Judge Harvey adjourned the matter to that date, for mention only.
