A further extensive search was carried out on the south Wexford coast yesterday for the body of seven-year-old Jonathan Dowdall, who is believed to have been drowned in Bannow Bay last Tuesday.
In wet and blustery conditions, searchers again combed the sands and channels of Ban now Bay exposed at low tide. Lifeboat units and an Air Corps Alouette helicopter covered an offshore region of some 12 miles from Baginbun Head to Kilmore Quay, in case the body had been swept out to sea.
The body of Jonathan's uncle, Mr Mi chael Gaffney (52), of Coolock, Co Dublin, was recovered from Bannow Bay on Tuesday night, hours after a rapid incoming tide cut off a family group on a cockle-picking expedition on the sands.
Mr Gaffney's family said yesterday the funeral arrangements would be announced later.
