The High Court has further adjourned proceedings against a school principal who has been directed by a judge to allow a pupil suspended for smoking cannabis to resume classes.

A court hearing on January 6th was told that the 15-yearold was caught smoking cannabis last October with four other boys while on a school trip to the Aran Islands and was suspended from school.

The suspension was later lifted by the school board, The boy is a pupil at Colaiste Raithin, an Irish-speaking school in Bray, Co Wicklow, run under the auspices of the Wicklow Vocational Education Committee.

O Ciarain was also secretary of the school board of management which had decided on October 23rd to suspend the boy from school.

Following a November 15th meeting of the school board, the boy's parents were told the suspension was being lifted and their son was welcome to attend school. The January 6th court hearing was told the boy returned to school on December 1st but was given a letter by the school principal, Mr Gearoid O Ciarain, informing him O Ciarain he could not accept responsibility for his return to classes and that he was still suspended.

Mr Justice O Caoimh ordered that Mr O Ciarain readmit the boy as a pupil until there was a full hearing of the dispute by the court.

The matter was adjourned for a further fortnight yesterday.
