A Dublin nursing home has requested visitors not to attend until further notice after a client was diagnosed with a salmonella infection at the weekend.

The South Western Area Health Board said a case of salmonella was confirmed on Saturday at the Brú Chaoimhín home for older persons in Cork Street, Dublin. The client, who has been isolated, was in a comfortable condition yesterday, the health board said.

"The home has responded swiftly, and appropriate infection control procedures have been put in place. Consequently, as a precaution, visitors have been requested not to visit the home for the present," the board said in a statement.

A health board spokesman said the visiting restrictions would continue until the situation is resolved.
