Ryanair said today it sold 2,024,572 airline seats in September - a 49 per cent increase on the total for the same month last year.

But the airline's planes were slightly less full last month, with a load factor of 85 per cent compared with 89 per cent in September 2002.

Ryanair measures its passenger figures by the number of seats sold regardless of whether passengers turn up for their flights are not. Ryanair operates a strict no-refund policy for no shows or flight changes.

The latest figures took the total number of seats sold by Ryanair in the 12 months to September to 19,232,788.

The airline's website, ryanair.com, accounted for 94 per cent of bookings in September, up from 92 per cent in the same month last year. On a rolling basis, online bookings now account for 93 per cent of all ticket sales.
