RTÉ has started legal proceedings against the Football Association of Ireland and Sky TV for the right to broadcast two European Championship games at Lansdowne Road.

The action relates to matches against Albania on June 7th and Georgia on June 11th.

Last year the FAI sold the rights to Irish international soccer matches to Sky. But new legislation passed in April said that a qualifying broadcaster could apply to the High Court for the right to broadcast major sporting events on free-to-air television.

A date for the case will be set today.
