Manchester United 4 Bolton 0
Manchester United started the defence of their Premiership title in style with a clinical dismissal of Bolton at Old Trafford.
Paul Scholes followed up Ryan Giggs' double with a controversial third before Ruud van Nistelrooy finished the Trotters off with a powerful effort three minutes from time.
But the real star of the show was stg£12.24million teenage sensation Cristiano Ronaldo, whose second-half introduction completely unhinged the Trotters' defence.
If first impressions are anything to go by, Ronaldo could make as big an impact on the game as his Brazilian namesake, twisting Hunt inside out as he swerved his way into the area at full speed, only to slip as he was about to make the vital pass.
Bolton were not so lucky the next time he got the ball, speeding onto Keane's through pass. Clearly worried by his electric pace, Hunt and Nolan both made a grab for his shirt, the latter succeeding, conceding an obvious penalty in the process.
On last year's form, it would have been a gift for van Nistelrooy. But, just as at the Millennium Stadium last week, the Dutchman's powerfully-struck effort was saved at full stretch - this time by Jaaskelainen.
The reprieve was brief as United maintained their offensive. Ronaldo floated a cross to the far poich was eventually collected by Scholes, whose low drive into the box was flicked goalwards by van Nistelrooy.
Again Jaaskelainen did well to save, but he could not hold on and Giggs was on hand to tap into an empty net.
Four minutes later, United had their third, although not without a touch of controversy as van Nistelrooy appeared to be in an offside position as Djemba-Djemba threaded a pass beyond the Bolton defence.
To the visitors' disbelief, the flag did not come and Scholes was not hanging around to argue, slipping round Jaaskelainen before sliding the ball home with ease.
Ronaldo burst forward again off the right flank setting up United's third substitute Diego Forlan with a chance the Uruguayan lashed wide.
The visitors recovered their composure and Gardner crashed a header off the bar as they searched for a consolation.
Instead, van Nistelrooy should have made it four at the other end, but somehow failed to get a touch to Ronaldo's dipping cross.
The Dutchman was not to be denied though and when Forlan flicked a Keane pass into the area, van Nistelrooy did not hold back as he bulleted the ball into the net to set a new Premier League record of scoring in nine successive games as well as taking his United scoring run to a club-best 11 matches.
